{"id":135,"date":"2017-04-21T08:26:00","date_gmt":"2017-04-21T06:26:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/mrkontour.com\/?p=135"},"modified":"2021-09-10T23:50:02","modified_gmt":"2021-09-10T21:50:02","slug":"natural-wine-vinocamp-rheinhessen","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/mrkontour.com\/en\/events-fares\/natural-wine-vinocamp-rheinhessen\/","title":{"rendered":"Session on Natural Wine, Vinocamp Rheinhessen 2017"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>After we already had a session on orange wines at the Vinocamp Rheinhessen last year, where nobody from Rheinhessen was present, I decided &#8211; we can do that here too!<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>So I looked around in Rheinhessen and found a great selection of natural wines from the wineries for the session.<br>Thank you again at this point!<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Definition on Natural Wine?!<\/h4>\n\n\n\n<p>First of all, perhaps a definition of the term &#8211; what is &#8220;orange wine&#8221;?<br>The <a href=\"http:\/\/www.weinwisser.org\/orange-wine\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Weinwisser<\/a> offers a very precise explanation &#8211; therefore here, as far as I have defined it for me in the meantime, the short form \ud83d\ude09<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>There is no generally valid definition &#8211; but there are two principles that everyone can agree on:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>Wine from white grapes<\/li><li>Mash fermentation (i.e. on the skin of the grapes)<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>&#8230;and why is it called Orange Wine?<br>Because of the contact with the skin of the berries during fermentation, the colouring particles are dissolved in the skin and give the wine an orange tone of varying intensity<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/mrkontour.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/04\/170401-VInocamp-Rheinhessen-MRK-219.jpg\" alt=\"\"\/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>But enough theory &#8211; I would like to introduce you to the tasted orange wines.<br>We had a total of 13 different wines &#8211; an exciting selection!<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The specialized journalist <a href=\"https:\/\/www.vinositas.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Joachim Kaiser<\/a> kindly agreed to jump into cold water, present the wines without prior tasting and taste them together with us.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><em>By the way &#8211; we tasted the wines again the next day. If we noticed any changes, notes on this are always included as &#8220;note following day&#8221; with the wines.<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\">2016 P\u00e9tillant Naturel, Sylvaner, Winery Braunewell<br>Rheinhessen&nbsp;<\/h4>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/mrkontour.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/04\/170401-VInocamp-Rheinhessen-MRK-220.jpg\" alt=\"\"\/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>Colour: strong yellow<\/li><li>very much yeast and suspended particles (as barrel sample)<\/li><li>yeasty notes<\/li><li>fresh and fruity appearance<\/li><li>Herbal Tea<\/li><li>Apple peel<\/li><li>&#8220;black bread&#8221;<\/li><li>meltdown<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p><em>Note following day &#8211; unfortunately not for this wine &#8211; because it was empty &#8230; too bad!<\/em><br><em>The well-intentioned advice &#8211; please open it very carefully &#8211; didn&#8217;t help at all and a large part of the content was unfortunately distributed in the vinotheque of the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.peth.de\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Peth Winery<\/a>. \ud83d\ude41<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator\"\/>\n\n\n\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong style=\"font-family: inherit; twice exotics<\/strong><\/h4>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/mrkontour.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/04\/170401-VInocamp-Rheinhessen-MRK-228.jpg\" alt=\"\"\/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>2016&nbsp;Savagnin &amp;&nbsp;Gew\u00fcrztraminer, Winery Espenschied, Rheinhessen<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>Colour: orange, clear<\/li><li>13%<\/li><li>slightly sulphured<\/li><li>slightly mouldy in the nose<\/li><li>is not reflected in the mouth, good drinking<\/li><li>light fruit tones<\/li><li>Carambola &amp; Quince<\/li><li style=\"list-style-type: none;\">&nbsp;<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>2016 &nbsp;&#8220;Heiter bis Wolkig&#8221;,&nbsp;Dornfelder &amp; Kerner,<br>Winery Weinreich,&nbsp;Rheinhessen<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>&#8220;actually&#8221; not a real orange wine, because made with red wine grapes as well<\/li><li>Colour: bright red, clear<\/li><li>6 weeks red and white grapes macerated<\/li><li>matured in large wooden barrel<\/li><li>no additives and no sulphur<\/li><li>breaded note<\/li><li>&#8220;young wine&#8221; character<\/li><li>slightly animal note<\/li><li>pleasant fruit aromas<\/li><li>sour cherry<\/li><li>a really &#8220;winy&#8221; natural wine<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\">2015 Riesling &amp; Sylvaner, Winery Schwarz, Switzerland<\/h4>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/mrkontour.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/04\/170331-Vinocamp-Rheinhessen-MRK-01.jpg\" alt=\"\"\/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>put aside in the &#8220;P\u00e9t Nat Trubel&#8221; while cleaning and forgotten on Saturday \ud83d\ude41&nbsp;<\/li><li>&#8230; but tasted on Sunday \ud83d\ude42<\/li><li>Colour: quite bright for orange wine<\/li><li>16%<\/li><li>rose and nutmeg<\/li><li>medium yellow fruit<\/li><li>unobtrusive, but very present<\/li><li>good acidity, but melty<\/li><li>Alcohol very well integrated<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\">2016 &#8220;Perlen vor die S\u00e4ue&#8221;,&nbsp;Riesling &amp; Silvaner<br>Winery Weinreich, Rheinhessen<\/h4>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/mrkontour.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/04\/170220-Vinocamp-Rheinhessen-MRK-02.jpg\" alt=\"\"\/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>As I am writing the blog post, I realize that this Pet Nat obviously also &#8220;must have been put aside in the hustle and bustle&#8221; &#8211; but we didn&#8217;t see him again even when we were cleaning up &#8230; obviously had found a friend \ud83d\ude09<br>What a pity, because I had the pleasure to taste him at a<br>orange wine tasting at the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.vinarmarium.de\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Vinarmarium<\/a> and it was sooooo delicious! So here is at least some general information, if you ever come across this P\u00e9tillant Naturel &#8211; try it!<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>Mash Fermented<\/li><li>with own residual sweetness<\/li><li>pressed during fermentation and filled into sparkling wine bottles to stop the fermentation<\/li><li>spontaneously and without any additives<br>no sulphur<\/li><li>Pressure of approx. 6 bar<\/li><li>unfortunately no notes made about aromas &#8211; but SUPER delicious, I remember that \ud83d\ude09<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/mrkontour.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/04\/170401-VInocamp-Rheinhessen-MRK-221-1.jpg\" alt=\"\"\/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Bottom line:<\/strong><\/h4>\n\n\n\n<p>Orange wine is not for the mainstream &#8211; it is simply a complex and unusual taste. But if you get involved, you can have a wonderful and delicious experience!<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In my opinion, a sparkling wine, the &#8220;P\u00e9tillant Naturel&#8221;, is generally recommended for beginners.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>&#8230; and as I said &#8211; there was only one representative who was really a challenge to taste &#8211; and he did not come from home \ud83d\ude09<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>After we already had a session on orange wines at the Vinocamp Rheinhessen last year, where nobody from Rheinhessen was present, I decided &#8211; we can do that here too!
