Wine hiking in Rheinhessen – Bechtolsheim at Pentecost 2017

Table of Contents

Admittedly – the term “hike” for the advertised 5.5 km through the vineyards in Rheinhessen is a bit far-fetched – but for some people it is certainly a hike 😉

Anyway – I haven’t been to Petersberg for a long time, the weather is nice and there is wine. These three arguments are enough to get me on the way to Bechtolsheim.

Straight a praise to the organizers – the way to the parking lot is very well signposted, so that even artists like me can find it without a navigation system! Also very positive is the fact that the parking lot is really big – even when I left in the early afternoon there were still places available, even though the wine event was very well attended.

Let’s get started

Unfortunately, the paths were not so obviously signposted – but mostly you only had to follow the other groups and you got from station to station comfortably! Everywhere the physical well-being was well taken care of and seats invited to stay in the vineyards. Cozy!

Some wineries had also provided musical entertainment. However, this did not quite meet my taste in music – but obviously that of those present, because the atmosphere left nothing to be desired.

Petersberg

On the “summit” of the Petersberg, the lieutenant …. took us into the year 1917 at the top of the hour and informed us about many interesting things about the position of the plane and the old ruins … and even wine majesties were called up 😉

Petersberg back to Parking

From then on it was all downhill – not with me, fortunately – and so I was able to continue enjoying the wonderful view while walking down the hill.
The end of the day was marked by the countrywomen with an inviting stop at the fountain house – the crush at the bar spoke for itself – here we surely had the most delicious cakes!

Conclusion

  • a pleasant circular route with a moderate gradient to the “summit” and wonderful views
  • appealing selection of food and drinks
  • you can go back 😉
